College venues host volleyball and baseball activity
Bakersfield College Renegades women’s volleyball defeated Citrus in a five-set Western State Conference match with set scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 15-7, moving their record to 6-14 overall and 3-3 in conference. The match occurred at the college’s volleyball facility. Separately, Cal State Bakersfield baseball pitcher Ryan Verdugo was chosen by the Houston Astros in the 12th round, 28th overall pick, of the Major League Baseball Draft. Campus baseball fields at both institutions therefore continue to support training and competition that can lead to professional selection.
Dignity Health Arena readies for hockey return
The Bakersfield Condors opened their AHL season with a 7-6 road loss to the San Jose Barracuda after scoring six goals. Their next contest is the home opener scheduled for Saturday at Dignity Health Arena. The arena supplies the dedicated ice and seating infrastructure required for professional hockey in the city.
