Bakersfield High Athletics Reshape Fall Season With New Conference Alignments
Eligibility rules and new conference alignments set the stage for upcoming seasons across local programs.
How we reported this
Bakersfield High School athletes must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and pass at least 4 classes totaling 20 units each quarter to remain eligible for competition.
The requirement comes as the Drillers prepare for fall sports that include football, volleyball, cross country, girls tennis, girls golf and water polo, with practices scheduled to begin in August.
League Realignment Details
Bakersfield High School shifted all sports to the South Yosemite River League, which places Centennial High School as the primary rival for the Drillers in CIF Central Section contests. East Bakersfield High School teams, known as the Blades, continue in the South Yosemite Mountain League and field varsity, junior varsity and frosh/soph squads in fall, winter and spring seasons.
Bakersfield Christian High School fields teams in the South Yosemite League and CIF Central Section, offering 37 teams across 22 sports with more than 75 percent of its students participating each year.
Participation Requirements
Student-athletes at Bakersfield High School must complete a physical examination and upload it to an online Sportsnet account after May 1 to gain clearance, while all game tickets for school events require purchase through the GoFan platform. These steps apply directly to the fall schedule that opens with August practices.
Local programs continue to operate under the same academic and procedural standards that have governed participation in prior seasons, ensuring athletes meet grade and unit thresholds before taking the field.
