Student Recognition Opens the Session
The meeting opened with recognition of 14 students from the Kern High School District who took part in the 48th annual Teen Government Day. Council members then turned to the consent items that passed without opposition.
Those items included purchase of two prefabricated restroom buildings for Jefferson and Stiern Parks. They also covered pedestrian safety improvements near Norris Elementary School and Stiern Middle School. A new five-year agreement with AXON Enterprise will supply body-worn cameras to the Bakersfield Police Department. Council adjusted the Park Development and Improvement fee and set the 2025 schedule for regular meetings, budget presentations, and hearings.
Residents Raise Homelessness Concerns
During public comment, several speakers urged the city to place greater emphasis on tenant rights, education programs, and affordable housing rather than enforcement that targets people sleeping outside. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for November 20 at 3:30 p.m.
